Internships

CASA has an extensive internship programme offering competitive placements in the public and private sectors all across Central America. With the help of alumni and the invaluable support of the Embassies we have been able to offer unparalleled internships with Ministries, financial services firms, NGOs and many more. These opportunities are limited to students and alumni of the London School of Economics and Political Science.

Application Process 

To apply for the internships, please send your application to applications.lsesu.casa@gmail.com by 12 midnight on March 13th, 2015. The application consists of a CV and a cover letter. We will be inviting candidates for interviews on Wednesday, March 18th. Please keep that date free.

You may apply to as many internships as you want. If you chose to apply for more than one internship, you may submit the same CV, but you are advised to adapt the cover letter.

We will also be holding an information session in early March to provide more clarity on the roles and the countries.

The positions

1. PRONACOM

Pronacom is part of a national programme for competitiveness and international investment in Guatemala. It aims to develop alliances and networks between the private sector and the government in order to create opportunities for development and investment in the country. The intern will be involved in Pronacom’s education projects, liaising between the private and public sector across various municipalities in Guatemala to enable the development of a comprehensive new educational strategy.

2. CEPIA

CEPIA is a Costarican non-profit organisation that seeks to promote culture, health, sports and education for children and teenagers and their families from poor backgrounds in the communities of Guanacaste, Costa Rica. Interns will be working directly with the children and families implementing CEPIA’s various programmes and contributing to the development of new projects.

3. TECHO

TECHO is a youth led non-profit organization present in Latin America & the Caribbean. Through the joint work of families living in extreme poverty with youth volunteers, TECHO seeks to overcome poverty in slums.

TECHO is convinced that poverty can be permanently eradicated if society as a whole recognizes poverty as a priority and actively works towards overcoming it.

4. Universidad Rafael Landivar – Economic Research Intern

Research intern in the Economics Department. The Role will involve conducting research and producing a research paper in regional economic integration.

5. The Central Bank of Nicaragua 

Four available internships for LSE SU CASA members at the Central Bank of Nicaragua. This will be a fascinating experience for students with a background in economics, finance and other related areas. This internship provides a monthly stipend to support students with living costs in Nicaragua.

6. Varela Hermanos

The largest sugar cane spirits producer and bottler in Panama, Varela Hermanos SA traces its history to 1908. The company now is one of the largest spirits producer in the region.

They would take two interns, with basic knowledge of business required, preferably in the area they are applying to: One for the Marketing department and one for the Finance department. The tasks would vary in regards of need but the interns would be able to experience first hand how the industry works, gain experience in the aforementioned fields and insight into the Latin-American commerce scene.

7. Banco Panama

Intern position: Risk Analyst. An exciting challenge to dive into the banking world and support in a methodology of RAROC (Risk adjusted return on capital) with the goal to develop a methodology of target market selection. 

Requirements: one intern with basic knowledge of statistics and accounting.

8. Levapan S.A.

Levapan S.A. is a international company  that works across all Latin America in the food industry.  It tries to satisfy with quality the changing needs of the market, leading the development of the sectors in which the company participates, through permanent input of efforts and resources in research and technological development, customer service and continuous business promotion, within a reciprocity framework of profitability that can guarantee its permanence. It is a Colombian business that has spread throughout Central and South America and is one of the largest in the region. The intern would be located in their Panama office. 

They would require one intern for Management Administration, but with the possibility to expand and gain experience from different areas depending on the intern’s interests and skills.
